Diplomatic ties with Malta

CABINET has agreed to establish diplomatic ties with Malta.

Malta approached the Namibian mission to the United Nations for the formal establishment of diplomatic links between the two countries. At its meeting on October 12, Cabinet recognised that formal diplomatic relations would enable the two countries to co-operate in trade, manufacturing, construction, tourism and training.Cabinet noted that Malta has limited fresh water resources and relies heavily on desalination.Namibia it said could benefit from the Maltese expertise in this regard, as well as its training and education programmes which have led to a productive labour force in that country.Namibians have already attended short training courses in Malta since 1990.New MVA Board named CABINET has approved the appointment of five new members to the board of the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund to serve for a period of three years.They are Phillip Amunyela of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications, Toivo Shiimbi of the Ministry of Finance, Thomas Mulunga of the Bus and Taxi Association, Zandile Erkana of the Medical Association of Namibia and Ndjavera Angula of the Law Society of Namibia.The decision was taken at its 29th ordinary meeting on October 12.At its meeting on October 12, Cabinet recognised that formal diplomatic relations would enable the two countries to co-operate in trade, manufacturing, construction, tourism and training.Cabinet noted that Malta has limited fresh water resources and relies heavily on desalination.Namibia it said could benefit from the Maltese expertise in this regard, as well as its training and education programmes which have led to a productive labour force in that country.Namibians have already attended short training courses in Malta since 1990.
