City of Windhoek councillor Sade Gawanas has been nominated to take charge of driving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives in Namibia.
The nomination is to chair the SDG localisation committee.
The committee is tasked with fostering cross-sector collaboration and positioning Windhoek as a leading city in SDG localisation.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic. Every time something exciting comes up, it’s a challenge that fuels my adrenaline. I’m ready to take it on,” Gawanas says.
“I’m passionate about creating environments in which we can thrive and reach our full potential.
“The impact of this work on our communities is enormous, and I’m beyond excited to lead the team in support of our shared vision.”
In addition to enhancing the existing partnerships between Windhoek, Durban and Bremen, the committee’s efforts have been bolstered by discussions with key global partners, including the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, the City of Vantaa, Finland, and UN-Habitat.
These organisations have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the committee’s initiatives, capacity-building efforts, and broader SDG implementation strategies.
