Coleman off the mark in Turkey

ZENATHA Coleman bagged a hat-trick and an assist on her second appearance for Fenerbahçe as they thrashed Kocaeli 8-0 in the Turkish Women’s Football Super League on Sunday.

The Namibian international forward, who joined the Istanbul club last week, scored in the 30th, 41st and 46th minutes.

“Felt good to get a hat-trick today,” Coleman posted on Twitter alongside an image with Trinidad and Tobago striker Kennya Cordner, who also registered a treble in the lopsided match.

Coleman’s first strike was an angled shot from just inside the left side of the penalty area to make it 3-0.

She then set up Cordner for 4-0, before adding the fifth. For her penultimate goal, Coleman cut inside her marker in the penalty area from the left wing before rolling the ball into the bottom far post.

Coleman completed her hat-trick with a tap in just before the break.

She has adapted relatively well to life in Turkey after being frozen out at Sevilla during her last few months in Spain. Coleman also registered an assist for Cordner on her league debut on Wednesday.

Sunday’s comprehensive win ensures Fenerbahçe keep pace with log leaders Besiktas, who triumphed 5-1 at Altay.

Second-placed Fenerbahçe are six points behind the unbeaten leaders who have won all their nine matches.

Fatih Vatan Spor in third spot and 1207 Antalya a further spot back are the other teams in the title race. Both sides are on 19 points.

Next, Fenerbahçe face mid-table KDZ Ereglispor on Sunday, with Besiktas at home to Kocaeli Bayan.
