Colder days, showers expected across Namibia

The Namibia Meteorological Service says cooler temperatures and light rain are expected in several regions across the country this week.

Chief forecaster Odillo Kgobetsi says the south will be the coldest area this week, with early morning temperatures dipping as low as 4°C and afternoon highs reaching between 22°C and 27°C.

In the central areas, residents can expect chilly mornings, with lows ranging from 6°C to 9°C, and daytime temperatures peaking between 24°C and 26°C.

“There will be a bit of moisture drifting in from the west and this will cause a bit of unstable air over the north, the northwest central and southern part of the country. This can result as well in some light showers,” Kgobetsi says.

Kgobetsi says in northern regions, overnight temperatures are expected to fall between 12°C and 14°C, while daytime temperatures will climb to between 27°C and 30°C.

The eastern parts of the country will experience a broader temperature range, with minimums between 8°C and 20°C and maximums from 27°C to 29°C.

“You can see a drift from the west coming to the central part, a lot of mid-level clouds, but as it gets more humid by this evening [Wednesday] we should expect some showers, and that can extend to tomorrow [Thursday] as well, then in the south of the country,” Kgobetsi says.

He says by Monday there will be a significant drop in temperatures over the southern, central and eastern parts of the country.
