CoD wants security threats to President investigated

MORE than a year since rumours swirled that the life of President Hifikepunye Pohamba was in danger, the matter has still not been laid to rest.

Yesterday Prime Minister Nahas Angula was called upon for the third time to answer to the Congress of Democrats on whether investigations had been concluded. He told the National Assembly that a security threat against any person deserved to be investigated by law enforcement agencies and that this needn’t be done on the instruction of Cabinet.”I’m informed that the relevant security agencies did learn about security threats to the head of state.Once their investigations are completed, their findings will be known and action will be taken if they are found to be true,” said Angula. He said he would thus not be taking any further questions on the matter. But CoD’s Ben Ulenga persisted, reminding Angula that in May last year the premier had said the public would be informed of the outcome of the investigations.Angula said a threat against a person’s life was a criminal offence and thus the matter would be dealt with through the channels of law.”If the threats are found to be real the law will take its course and the public will be informed through the courts. It is not in the hands of politicians but in the hands of the judiciary,” said Angula.Last year Angula told the House that Government had initiated investigations into the alleged security threats against Government officials and would inform the public of the outcome.
