THE Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) 2016 Club Tennis League continued on Saturday with three encounters in the Men’s Second Division, one match in the Men’s Third Division and two matches in the Women’s Second Division.
In the Men’s Second Division, CTC B prevailed by 15 points to 5 over the Unam team.
CTC C failed to turn up for their match against the Namibia University of Science Technology (Nust) team, which won the encounter 20-0 on default.
In the Women’s Second League the City of Windhoek team beat Nust 13-7, while the City of Windhoek men’s team defeated the Nust student team 19-1.
DTS took 20 points by default due to another no-show of the Police College team.
The CTC B team earned hard-won points when its top player Jurgens Twyman beat Unam’s top gun Eno Akpabio 6-3, 7-5. However, CTC B team captain Kyalo Kitheka took a 6-3, 6-2 beating from Unam team captain Patrick Paulus.
The CTC B doubles team of Lawrence Kahindi and Gino Braz defeated the Unam students Chris Mundukuta and Sem David 6-2, 6-0, but faced a much harder challenge in their second match against Akpabio and Paulus.
After losing the first game 6-2 they came back to win the second game 6-4 and finally prevailed 10-6 in the third game that was played as a champion tie-break. In the doubles, the CTC B combination of Twyman and Kitheka fbeat Unam’s David and Mundukuta 6-0, 6-3.
In the Men’s Third Division, then City of Windhoek’s top player Gospel Mwilima overcame Nust’s Megameno Shipanga in a tough three-setter, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Troosiy Shivangulula defeated Nust team captain Bratwin Brock 6-0, 6-1, while Bourquin van Wyk defeated Nust’s Edwin Tsowaseb 6-2, 6-2.
The City of Windhoek also won the two doubles matches. Mwilima/ and Shivangulula beat Brock and Uaatjo 6-0, 6-1, while Van Wyk and Mwilima beat Brock and Tsowaseb 6-4, 6-2.
In the women’s encounter between the City of Windhoek and Nust student team, most of the matches were close affairs.
Charmaine Mwilima struggled in her first set against Nust’s Stefanie Garises, but made a fine comeback to win the match in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Mwilima’s team mate Lydia Kyobetsi defeated Nathalia Kupembona 6-2, 6-2, Mwilima and Kyobetsi won the doubles encounter 6-4, 7-5.
The league continues on 13 August with matches in the men’s first, second and third divisions as well as the women’s first and second divisions.
