CIVICS beat Ramblers 1-0 to move up to third spot on the Namibia Premier League log on Wednesday night.
Collin Chimu scored the winning goal a minute before the break when he latched onto a loose ball in the centre of the park and unleashed a 30-metre shot that flew into the left hand corner of the net.The goal was somewhat against the run of play as Ramblers had done most of the attacking but they could not break through Civics’ defence, which was well marshalled by Donelly Nel and Penias Nzeve.Gregory Horaeb, Randall Goagoseb and Larry Horaeb all had forays into the box while Benji Ketjijere also put in some good runs down the right wing.Gregory Horaeb came close when he volleyed wide from an Emilio Martin freekick midway through the half, while there was danger in Civics’ box on 37m when goalie Esau Tjiuoro spilled a cross but Goagoseb was just too late to put the loose ball into the net.Civics’ new striker Wangu Gome had a great game, harassing Ramblers’ defence with his nippy runs and a great cross of his on 20m was just missed by Nico Narib with the goalmouth wide open. But Chimu finally found the net just before the break with a great shot that gave Ramblers’ keeper Lukas Hashiti no chance. In the second half, Costa Khaiseb had a good shot saved by Hashiti, while Sadney Urikhob hit the back of the net after a fine run by Gome only to be ruled offside. In the final stages an Urikhob header went straight to Hashiti in Ramblers’ goals. The victory sees Civics moving up three places to third spot on 21 points, level on African Stars, but with an inferior goal difference.Ramblers, who remain on 20 points, move two spots down to sixth on the log. – namibiasport.com.naUpcoming fixturesFriday, February 10Hotspurs v Orlando Pirates, Sam Nujoma Stadium 20h00Saturday February 11Tigers v Mighty Gunners, SKW Stadium16h00African Stars v United Stars, Sam Nujoma Stadium 17h00
