Civics pull away at the top

Civics opened up a four-point lead at the top of the MTC Namibia Premier League log after beating African Stars 2-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday.Blue Waters moved up to second position after collecting maximum points at the coast, while Tigers slipped down to third after a shock 1-0 defeat against Cymot SKW on Friday.

SKW’s good work was however undone as they crashed to a 6-0 defeat against Ramblers on Sunday, and they now once again find themselves at the bottom of the table along with Touch & Go. Heini Isaacs continued his great goal scoring form of late to score both goals in Civics’ win against Stars. After a goalless first half, Isaacs opened the scoring in the 55th minute, exchanging quick passes with Rudi Louw before hitting a volley into the net.Ten minutes later Isaacs was at it again, when he controlled a cross from the left, weaved his way past two defenders and slotted the ball home.Stars had chances of their own but Civics’ keeper Lukas Hashiti was in fine form.In the first half he pulled off a great save to deny Nico Andima, and after the break he once again pulled off two fine saves.Blue Waters go second Blue Waters moved into second position after beating Oshakati City 4-0 and Chief Santos 3-0 over the weekend.Against Oshakati City, Meraai Swartbooi scored a brace and Armando Pedro one, while Oshakati defender Uwu-Khaeb scored an own goal.On Sunday they beat Chief Santos 3-0 to move up to second position on the log, four points behind Civics, with a game in hand.Despite the loss against Civics, Stars pulled off an important away win against Touch & Go on December 10.Freedom Puriza scored the only goal of the match that puts them in fourth position on 10 points.Stars’ manager Lesley Kozonguizi was however not happy with the scheduling of Stars’ matches.”I don’t think it is fair.We had to travel back from Otavi for the Civics game and this coming weekend we have two more possible matches in the FNB Cup.That’s four games in a week – it’s definitely not fair,” he said.Shock defeat for Tigers Tigers moved down to third after a shock 1-0 loss to SKW at the SKW field on December 9.Frans van Wyk scored the solitary goal in the 35th minute, and then SKW weathered Tigers’ second half onslaught with some resolute defending.Tigers had a great chance to draw level when they were awarded a penalty, but midfielder Nelson Akwenye blasted the ball over the crossbar.Less than two days later, all SKW’s good work was wasted as they crashed to a 6-0 defeat against Ramblers at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.Raymond Awaseb opened the scoring in the fifth minute after SKW goalie Sven Wiedenroth fumbled a high ball, and from then on it was one-way traffic.Samson John and Elvin Majiedt each scored a goal before half-time, while Awaseb added a second after the break and substitute Ninja Karongee two more to give Ramblers an emphatic victory. The victory sees Ramblers moving up three positions to seventh place, although they are now ten points behind leaders Civics.Disappointing weekend for Chief Santos It was a disappointing weekend for Chief Santos who promised much, but left the coast empty-handed.On Saturday they took a 2-0 lead against Eleven Arrows through goals by Steve Tjeenao and Neville Gariseb, but two goals by Joseph Chanda and another by substitute Laban Mualumbirua after the break saw Arrows collect maximum points.Oshakati City fared slightly better than their co-travellers from Tsumeb. After their comprehensive 4-0 defeat against Blue Waters on Saturday, they managed to hold Arrows to a 1-all draw the next day.Abe Musweu opened the scoring for Arrows in the 5th minute, but Oshakati City equalised deep into injury time when the ball was scrambled into the net from a corner.Chief Santos and Arrows are still in the danger zone in 9th and 10th positions respectively, but Oshakati City can breathe a little easier as they are lying fifth on the log with eight points.Heini Isaacs continued his great goal scoring form of late to score both goals in Civics’ win against Stars. After a goalless first half, Isaacs opened
