Chile and Quality Futsal Clubs have taken a six point lead over the chasing pack as the NDTC Futsal Premier League concludes for the festive season.
On Saturday, Quality beat Selecao 1-0 in a close encounter, while Chile received stiff opposition from Demia before winning their encounter 4-2.
Chile and Quality are now the only unbeaten teams in the league with both on 27 points after nine matches, well ahead of Windhoek Futsal Club and Ballers who are both on 21.
The encounter between Selecao and Quality was evenly balanced with both sides testing each other’s defences to the limit. With Reggie Willemse, Vilho Lawrence and Nigel Prins leading the attacks for Selecao, several efforts went narrowly wide, while at the other end, Ken Salote and Sebastiao Borges were constant threats, with Ezio Chivas and Luis Solunga also coming close to scoring.
Quality finally broke through Selecao’s defence midway through the second half when a great angled shot by Salote broke the deadlock.
Selecao tried hard to come back with Prins, Lawrence and Waldron Theron all having shots that went narrowly wide of the target in the final stages.
That win put Quality at the top of the log but they were soon replaced by Chile who went top on goal difference after coming from behind to beat Demia 4-2.
Demia took an early lead through Popyeni Shihepo and when Gerson Shipena made it 2-0 midway through the first half an upset was on the cards.
Jurgen van der Byl, however, inspired Chile’s comeback, scoring two goals early in the second half to draw level at 2-2, while two more goals by Martin Humphries and Immanuel Angula in the closing stages sealed Chile’s victory.
Windhoek Futsal Club surged up to third position on 21 points after an emphatic 10-2 victory against 7 Kings.
Daniel Dausab led the way for WFC with a hattrick, while Denzel Mulunga scored two goals, and Mzandile Meuto, Philimon Muhongo, Nangei Kamatuka, Dahlin Kandjala and August Daniel one goal each.
WFC were joined by Ballers on 21 points after they beat WIAS by default and were awarded the points.
Another team that won their match by default was EFG Patriots who were awarded the points after the X Men failed to pitch for their match. Patriots and Selecao are now both on 19 points, and were joined by Boston Madrid, who beat the Mavericks 5-4 in a humdinger.
Ndumba Kasheera opened the scoring for the Mavericks in the eighth minute, while two more goals by Gurico Bock and Jorge Junior gave them a 3-0 lead by halftime.
David Hango opened Boston Madrid’s account early in the second half, but the Mavericks seemed to have done enough to win the match when they headed into the closing stages with a two-goal advantage.
Boston Madrid, however, made a great comeback as a goal blitz in the closing stages turned the match on its head.
Ronaldo Zaahl made it 3-2, while two goals in quick succession by Renzel Tjihita put them ahead for the first time in the match.
Romario van Wyk stretched their lead to 5-3 before a late Mavericks goal by Andreas Kashongo made the final score 5-4.
In other matches, Ineos FC beat Knights FC 3-2 to move up to eighth place on the log, while JAC Motors beat Flying V 7-3 to move up to 12th place.
Diego Samson scored a hattrick for JAC Motors, while Romario Mathys added two goals and Tangi Kaveca and Villi Jimmy one goal each, with Joshua Crespo scoring a hattrick for Flying V.
