ARMY commander major general Tomas Hamuyela on Wednesday handed over the command of the 12 Motorised Infantry Brigade at Keetmanshoop to brigadier general Epimacus Tshavuka.
Tshavuka took over the reins at the military base, which was renamed Hendrik Witbooi Barracks last year, from brigadier general Peter Nghipunyati Nghilukilwa.
Nghilukilwa retired last month after 26 years of military service.
In his acceptance speech, Tshavuka promised to discharge his responsibilities as brigade commander with all honesty, diligence, vigour and determination to command and control the men and women in uniform placed under his command.
“I therefore, without reservation, accept the challenge and am going to maximise my firm leadership and try by all means to achieve the desired outcome of the brigade’s vision and mission statement,” Tshavuka pledged.
The incoming brigadier general warned that indiscipline will not be tolerated.
“I want my voice to be heard loud and clear, absent without official leave, indiscipline and bad behaviours, alcohol and drug abuses are the enemy of progress, therefore should be revealed, shamed and culprits brought to book,” Tshavuka remarked.
Nghilukilwa on his part, thanked officers of the brigade for having made his tenure as commander of the brigade a very successful one while urging them to give the incoming commander their full support.
