A pipeline carrying water between Otjituuo and Elandspan burst on Friday, interrupting supply to Otjituuo in the Otjozondjupa region.
The Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) announced on Friday that normal water supply should be restored on Monday.
“NamWater Brandberg maintenance teams have been mobilised and are currently carrying out repair works. However, due to the extent of the damage, the repairs are expected to take some time to complete,” NamWater head of public relations Lot Ndamanomhata said in the announcement.
Water supply to residents of Otjituuo as well as customers supplied by NamWater branches 7, 1, and 4 are affected.
It could take up to 48 hours after the water supply is restored to reach customers.
“As an interim measure, NamWater will dispatch a water tanker to the affected area to assist customers where possible and to minimise the impact of the supply interruption,” Ndamanomhata said.
A section of the gravel road between Elandspan and Otjituuo has been washed away due to the burst pipe. NamWater advised motorists to be cautious on the road and asked affected residents to use water sparingly.
