Bumpy ride for Air Nam

AIR Namibia says it is battling a spate of ‘unforeseen technical challenges’ which have affected various scheduled routes over the past few days.

‘Despite regular and scheduled maintenance on aircraft, some technical challenges occurred. Air Namibia has made provision for passengers affected by these inconveniences and passengers were either re-routed to their final destination at the earliest opportunity or offered accommodation where necessary and the airline made arrangements for passengers who had onward connecting flights,’ Mia de Klerk of Air Namibia said. In one incident, a Boeing 737 aircraft incurred ramp damage at Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. The damage was repaired and the aircraft has resumed service. A second Boeing 737 aircraft was scheduled for routine maintenance, which lasted longer than expected. That plane is also back in service now. An Air Namibia B1900 aircraft was struck by lightning, but has been repaired. ‘Air Namibia has made provision to minimise effects on scheduled flights and provision has been made to secure spares holding stock locally to address these unforeseen incidents in the most effective manner,’ De Klerk said.
