Bruwer joins Ajax

FORMER Brave Warriors and Civics goalkeeper Danzyl Bruwer signed a two-year deal with South African premiership side Ajax Cape Town at the weekend.

According to his manager, Collin April, Bruwer has been on trials for two weeks with the former South African league champions and will be fighting for the number one jersey between the sticks against two other goalkeepers at the club. April said the technical staff at Ajax was impressed with the work-rate of the former national team goalkeeper who is known for his acrobatic antics in goal, which at times cost his teams goals. The wayward Bruwer, better known as ‘Dena’, has been out of action for almost the whole of last season, but has now regained his fitness and according to April, he is raring to go.”He looked very sharp during the trials and his experience was evident in what he was doing. He has really matured and I am happy for him,” said April, who masterminded many moves of Namibian players to South Africa in the past three seasons.Bruwer becomes the fourth Namibian goalkeeper to ply his trade in South Africa after Maritzburg United goalkeeper Athiel Mbaha, Black Leopards’ Ephraim Tjihonge and Abisai Shiningayamwe, who turns out for relegated Jomo Cosmos.Meanwhile, former Namibian goalkeeper Sparks Gottlieb has landed a contract with Maritzburg United as goalkeeper coach.Gottlieb has already started with his duties since joining the side, currently coached by multiple league-title-winning coach Gordon Ingesund.April said the technical staff at Ajax was impressed with the work-rate of the former national team goalkeeper who is known for his acrobatic antics in goal, which at times cost his teams goals. The wayward Bruwer, better known as ‘Dena’, has been out of action for almost the whole of last season, but has now regained his fitness and according to April, he is raring to go.”He looked very sharp during the trials and his experience was evident in what he was doing. He has really matured and I am happy for him,” said April, who masterminded many moves of Namibian players to South Africa in the past three seasons.Bruwer becomes the fourth Namibian goalkeeper to ply his trade in South Africa after Maritzburg United goalkeeper Athiel Mbaha, Black Leopards’ Ephraim Tjihonge and Abisai Shiningayamwe, who turns out for relegated Jomo Cosmos.Meanwhile, former Namibian goalkeeper Sparks Gottlieb has landed a contract with Maritzburg United as goalkeeper coach.Gottlieb has already started with his duties since joining the side, currently coached by multiple league-title-winning coach Gordon Ingesund.
