Bruwer guilty

FORMER Brave Warriors goalkeeper Danzyl Bruwer has been found guilty after testing positive for a prohibited substance, a ruling by the South African Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee stated this week.

Bruwer, who flatly refused to comment on the issue when approached by The Namibian Sport yesterday, has been found guilty of transgressing the Fifa Doping Control Regulations.
The former Ajax Cape Town and Civics goal minder tested positive for a prohibited substance known as methamphetamine, a synthetic drug used as a stimulant.
The misconduct was detected during a Premier Soccer League match between Ajax Cape Town and Free State Stars.
According to the Supersport website, the ruling was made by the SAFA’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) in Johannesburg and Bruwer has since been suspended from football for two years and he is also liable to pay a fine of R65 000.
‘The Safa DC made a ruling on the evidence that Bruwer’s A and B urine samples tested positive,’ it read.
Yesterday, Bruwer accused this reporter for instigating that he (Bruwer) denied reports for being tested for the banned substance.
‘I told you earlier that I did not get any communication from Safa or Ajax about the outcome of the test. I confirmed to have taken the test, but up to today, I don’t know about any verdict regarding that. For now, I don’t have any comment on the issue,’ he said.
In another case the Safa DC has found Lucky Maselesele of Maritzburg United FC guilty of misconduct, on November 12 2008, in a league match between Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits FC.
Maselesele tested positive to a prohibited substance known and described as benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine.
Safa CEO Raymond Hack says the fundamental aims of doping control are set out in the Preamble of the Fifa doping Control Regulations.
Commenting on the outcome of the two cases, Hack said: ‘The fundamental aims of doping control are threefold: to uphold and preserve the ethics of sport, to safeguard the physical health and mental integrity of players; and to ensure that all competitors have an equal chance, the Association will continue to be vigilant in ensuring that the principle of fair play prevails in the sport we all love’. – Additional Reporting by Supersport
