Boxers in Tobias camp impress at champs

THE Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy clinched the Khomas Boxing Sub-Division crown after most of its boxers posted victories in the finals of the event staged in Windhoek on Saturday.

The popular Windhoek-based academy collected nine gold, five silver and one bronze medal during the two-day championships held at A Shipena Secondary School.The Mistake Gariseb Boxing and Fitness University was second while the Soweto Boxing Club was third.In fourth place was Tiger Cage Boxing Club while Golden Boxing Club took the fifth and last spot.The Sunshine academy also produced the Best Boxer of the Tournament, with Mika Shanonena walking away with a trophy.Shanonena and Martin Iipumbu’s lightweight fight was voted as the Best Bout of the Tournament and they collected trophies for their great efforts in that. Shanonena won the fight.The other gold medals winners included Natanael Kamati in the light flyweight, Andreas Amupolo in the flyweight and Nortbert Ashivudhi in the bantamweight category. The three boxers are from the Sunshine camp.Jeremia Nakathila of Soweto Boxing Club took gold in the featherweight division, while Titus Iiyambo (Sunshine) was the champion in the light welterweight category.Michael Kavari of Sunshine entertained the crowd to win his welterweight gold medal over Johannes Shoombe of Tiger Cage Boxing Club.Walter Kautondoka (Sunshine) finished off Lukas Ndafoloma (Tiger Cage) in the middleweight category for gold, while Sirongo Kasera was victorious over Chris Kangorondezu in the light heavyweight division. Both boxers are from the Sunshine camp.Sam Fanuel of (JMGBC) proved a handful for Johannes Shinedima to take the heavyweight gold medal, before Ure Uuwanga ousted an out-of-sorts Sakkie Nakatana in the super-heavyweight bout to take gold.Nakatana simply could not continue with the last round as he remained in his corner due to exhaustion in a fight that was only scheduled for three rounds.The fights were sanctioned by the Namibia Boxing Federation through its chief executive officer Joe Kaperu, who served as the ring announcer. It was sponsored by Ready Bites Meat, Millennium Investments, while the Sunshine Club played host. The gold medal winners will represent the Khomas Region at the national boxing championships next month in Windhoek.corry@namibian.com.na
