BOKOMO Namibia is busy with a N$40 million expansion at its Brakwater plant just outside Windhoek.
Louwtjie Hoon, CEO of Bokomo Namibia, says the decision to build a new pasta plant and a wheat mill was taken in October last year. The building work started in December last year and should be completed by May.The expansion involves building a new wheat mill with a capacity of milling five tonnes per hour, and a pasta plant with a production capacity of one tonne per hour. The current production of wheat flour is three tonnes per hour, and 600 kg of pasta an hour is produced.Hoon said the main priority when it came to pasta production was the improvement of quality.Speaking on other recent developments, Hoon said that in June 2010 Bokomo Namibia built a plant that produces a ‘complete baker’s mix’. This supplies local bakers with a ready-mix which just requires the addition of water before baking. The aim of this is to target a skills shortage in the local baking industry.
