Benjamin’s football school to create jobs

THE First Football School in Windhoek, founded by retired footballer Collin Benjamin, will create job opportunities for 100 residents, and prioritise using small-to-medium scale enterprises for professional services.

The project, which was approved in December 2016, will be a platform to groom football stars and provide office space at the Khomasdal Stadium, which is currently not being used.

Benjamin, who is the assistant Brave Warriors coach, applied to the municipality to use part of the Khomasdal Stadium to set up the school on the B and C fields at an estimated cost of N$30 million, while further upgrades on the A field will bring the total cost to N$50 million.

Although the lease agreement will only be for the Khomasdal Stadium B and C fields, the upgrading will be for the entire facility, including the A field.

A draft lease agreement submitted to council shows that the school will lease the facility for 30 years for a monthly rental fee of N$18 975, with a 10% annual increment.

The school will use 23 972 square metres of the 71 520 square metres stadium..

According to the council documents, there are sufficient funds and collateral to start the project.

“There will be no financial implication from the council’s side to this project. However, the supervision during the construction and other services will be as per council laws,” the documents state.

The documents further indicate that Benjamin requested for a name change in the lease, although he will still remain the representative of the entity.

“It should also be noted that the initial proposal was submitted under the personal capacity of Collin Benjamin, but it was transferred to the First Football School in Windhoek,” the documents read.
