OKAHANDJA Beauties won the Women’s National Football Championships after beating Rehoboth Queens 4-0 in the final on Sunday.
Beauties, representing the Khomas Region, had by far the most possession and could have won by a much wider margin had they made use of their chances. Beauties launched numerous attacks in the first half, notably through right winger Bianca Fredericks, but Queens’ defence stood firm.Especially Leandri Lucas caught the eye as she constantly cleared the ball away in Queens’ penalty area.Fredericks finally broke the deadlock with a great solo goal on 35 minutes. She received the ball in the centre of the park and went on a probing run into Queens’ penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot that hit the back of the net.In the final minutes of the first half, Stella Williams had a header saved while Kleintjie Fredericks shot over the bar from close range. The second half had barely begun before Beauties increased their lead. From a corner by Mammie Kasaona, Marele Polster headed the ball into the net.Stella Williams tested Queens’ keeper Aurelia Christiaans with two shots in quick succession, but she did well to tip them away for corners.Beauties kept on piling on the pressure and Polster nearly added her second goal when she shot just wide of an empty net with Christiaans well off her line.Juliana Skrywer worked hard for Queens in midfield and created some chances, but the finishing was poor.On 36 minutes she put Mariska Januarie clear, but her shot was poor and a minute later Queens’ fortunes took a dive when Rauchanda Platt received a red card for showing an abusive sign to Beauties’ bench.Beauties soon capitalised and Melissa Bakker headed a goal from a fine lob by Stella Williams on 40 minutes. In the final minute, Williams also got on the score sheet when she hit the back of the net with a tame free kick that Christiaans misjudged. In the playoff for third place, NDF Cheetahs beat the Kunene Region 2-1.The individual award winners were as follows: Goalkeeper of the tournament: Rellie Amamus (Kunene) Defender of the tournament: Hamatha Mangumukele (Kavango) Midfielder of the tournament: Bonitha Neidel (Kavango) Striker of the tournament: Zenatha Coleman (Karas) Junior player of the tournament: Maria Polster Team of the tournament: Okahandja Beauties Player of the tournament: Stacy Naris Top goal scorer: Stella Williams Administrator of the tournament: Jacky Shipanga Most Improved League: Kunene.www.namibiasport.com.naBeauties launched numerous attacks in the first half, notably through right winger Bianca Fredericks, but Queens’ defence stood firm.Especially Leandri Lucas caught the eye as she constantly cleared the ball away in Queens’ penalty area.Fredericks finally broke the deadlock with a great solo goal on 35 minutes. In the playoff for third place, NDF Cheetahs beat the Kunene Region 2-1.The individual award winners were as follows: Goalkeeper of the tournament: Rellie Amamus (Kunene) Defender of the tournament: Hamatha Mangumukele (Kavango) Midfielder of the tournament: Bonitha Neidel (Kavango) Striker of the tournament: Zenatha Coleman (Karas) Junior player of the tournament: Maria Polster Team of the tournament: Okahandja Beauties Player of the tournament: Stacy Naris Top goal scorer: Stella Williams Administrator of the tournament: Jacky Shipanga Most Improved League: Kunene.www.namibiasport.com.na
