Bank Windhoek Youth Tennis tournament kicks off

TENNIS players from Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, India, Australia, England, Portugal, and Germany will gather in Windhoek this weekend to compete in the Bank Windhoek South Central Circuit U18 tennis tournament.

The Bank Windhoek South Central Circuit tournament will be the first of two International ITF world ranking point tournaments.

Matches start at 08:30 with qualifying rounds on Saturday, 30 April 2016, and Sunday the 1 May 2016 at Central Tennis Club in Olympia.

The main draw matches will start on Monday, 2 May 2016 at 08:30.

Boys will play at Central Tennis Club and the girls will play at the SKW tennis courts.

‘We have 48 boys in the main draw and 32 boys in the qualifying draw. In the girls section 32 girls entered in the main draw and 16 girls entered in the qualifying draw,’ says Johan Theron, chairman of Junior Tennis at the Namibia Tennis Association.

The quarter finals, semi finals and finals will be played at Central Tennis Club.

The finals, boys and girls, will be played on Saturday, 7 May 2016.

The Bank Windhoek NTA U18 event starts on the 7 May 2016, with the qualifying rounds and the main draw matches will start on 9 May 2016.

‘In this tournament we also have 48 boys in the main draw, 32 boys in the qualifying draw, 32 girls in the main draw and 16 girls in the qualifying draw. Once again all the quarter finals, semi final and final matches will be played at Central Tennis Club in Olympia,’ Theron said.

All the matches will start at 08:30 and the finals will be played on Saturday, 14 May 2016 starting at 09:00 for both boys and girls.

Namibia will have at least six boys and two girls participating in these events.

The boys are Kudzai Toto, Paul Schwieger, Dantago Gawanab, Tevin Tait, Yed Malan and Archie Norval. The girls are Jessica Riedel and Taimi Nashiku.

The tournament referee is Pieter Hoeksma from South Africa and the tournament director is Johan Theron from Namibia.
