Award-winning entrepreneur killed in car crash

CHARLOTTE Shigwheda Angula (32) and two other people were killed in a head-on collision 20 km outside Karibib on Monday.
Charlotte was known in Swakopmund for her Mondesa Township Tours, for which she has won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Angula, and three children.Philip shared the horrific incident with The Namibian. He and Charlotte were married on July 31. She died on August 31 at 23h45.According to him, they were returning to Swakopmund from his father’s wedding near Oshikuku in the North over the weekend. Dario Marques, who was his best friend and also the best man at his wedding, was driving the VW CitiGolf. There were six people in the vehicle. Philip and his wife were sitting in the back. From Karibib’s direction, a left-hand-drive Pajero tried to overtake another vehicle.’It’s dangerous driving a left-hand-drive car in Namibia. If one wants to overtake then, the car will already be halfway into the other lane before you can see oncoming traffic. This is what happened. The Pajero was already halfway into our lane before he could notice us coming and then it was too late,’ Philip told The Namibian. He said their car was literally ‘cut in half’ by the Pajero, with everyone on the right side being killed, including his wife and Marques. The name of the third deceased was Emilia Josef (22).’The three of us on the left side of the vehicle survived,’ he said.’We worked together for two years. Charlotte would always put someone first and this rubbed off on me. She had a heart for the DRC children specifically, and 60 per cent of our income went to the community and benefited many,’ he said.Philip will continue with the tours.According to the Erongo Police Chief, Commissioner Festus Shilongo, the driver of the Pajero allegedly left the scene without ascertaining the damage and failed to report the accident. The Police are still looking for him. A case of culpable homicide was opened.A friend and colleague of Charlotte, Elizabeth de Beer, told The Namibian that Charlotte was a fantastic and vibrant person with ‘a heart for the community’.’She loved people and they loved her. She was very successful with her tours into Mondesa and the DRC, and with that helped many people with an income,’ De Beer said.’It’s a tragedy for all of us that she passed away.’
