THE MTC Premiership will go into recess for most teams, with the exception of United Stars and Eleven Arrows who will take to the field on Sunday morning at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay.
The outstanding fixture is because of a match which did not take place at the //Usab Stadium in Karibib, which was unfit for play. The two sides will play on Sunday because of the parliamentary and presidential elections that will be held today and tomorrow across the country. NPL’s chief administrator, Tovey //Hoëbeb, yesterday confirmed that the Kuisebmond Stadium is now playable and that the two teams will do battle on the harbour town’s turf.United Stars come from a 9-3 drubbing by Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) and have everything to play for to minimise any further damage to their reputation. The Rundu-based outfit, which only entered top flight football this season, have won two of their matches, while Arrows have a similar result.Arrows are in seventh spot, while Stars are in eighth and there is only one point separating them. Arrows have 10 to Stars’ nine points in total. For the coastal outfit, it will be all systems go as Ronnie Kanalelo will not want to slip up on this one after they lost 1-0 to Oshakati City in their last match. The former Brave Warriors and Mamelodi Sundowns goal minder is under increasing pressure to bring in results for a side which has so far scored a paltry six goals in their league campaign to date.Interestingly, Arrows have also the second lowest margin of goals conceded of six in the season, with African Stars and Tigers the most efficient in defence, as they have let three goals pass their goalkeepers each. But for Arrows, it will be a matter of looking for goals and catching up with the big guns, or facing the challenge of working extra hard to be in the top six bracket in the second half of the season.Their top striker and former Brave Warriors goal-getter, Muna Katupose, only has two goals to his credit, with others scoring lone goals for a side that possibly has some of the finest players in domestic football. For Kanalelo, it will be a question of fielding his best side as he has done in the past matches, but the onus will be on the players to deliver the goods and make their fans happy, including club owner Johnny Doëseb, who is already an angry man.A win against United Stars will lift their spirits ahead of their next game against Ramblers at home and their derby against Blue Waters before they take a break from December 13. corry@namibian.com.na
