ELEVEN Arrows blitzed Ramblers 4-1 in an exciting clash in Windhoek on Saturday, as they march towards the summit of the MTC Namibia Premier League, which now sees three teams joined on points.
Arrows put in an impressive display overall that left the home side totally baffled and in disarray especially in the second half, after a 1-all stalemate at the break.
Dickson Paul scored the opening goal of the match for Ramblers, but their lead stagnated in the second half after a rejuvenated Arrows side picked up the pieces and turned on the heat.
For Arrows, goals came from Tara Katupose, Rudolf Bester and Jason Ekandjo giving the coastal side the victory whichnow brings it into second position on the log with 16 points, joined with African Stars and Orlando Pirates.
SKW are still in command on 18 points after their 1-0 midweek win over Black Africa.
Bester, who was the chief engineer in attack on the day netted twice as they bid for what could be their first league title in over a decade.
Bester told The Namibian Sport after the match that he was happy to have scored on the day and was looking forward to more goals as the side has launched a serious campaign to grabbing the league title from defending champions Orlando Pirates this season.
‘I am happy with my performance at this stage. I am in good shape and I am also happy that all my team-mates are bringing their part for the success of the team. I want us to win the title this year with Arrows. We owe it to our management and most importantly to our fans. They all deserve it. But we will take each game as it comes, but with the aim of lifting the trophy in the end,’ he said.
Bester cleverly swapped the flanks with striking partner Donavan Swartz to confuse defenders, while Muna Katupose kept the button pressed tightly from the central attacking role.
Ramblers assistant coach Seun Stuurman was not happy with the performance in the second half, saying that his players gave it all away.
‘We were steady in the first half, but we gave our possession away in the second half and that brought all the trouble. We kept the ball very well in the first 45 minutes, but we could not hold on to that later on in the game. We are all disappointed but we have to keep our heads up and move on,’ he said.
Arrows coach Gilbert Rwasoka said he it was a tight battle in the first half, but his lads opened up in the second half and his plan of attacking from the wings worked well.
‘I am really satisfied with the performance especially in the second half and it will be important for us to carry through that momentum in our next matches,’ he said.
African Stars beat Mighty Gunners 1-0 at the Mokati Stadium through a goal by Robert Nganjone.
Stars chairman, Mbakumua Hengari, whose team also has ambitious plans to land the championship, instead decided to keep on eye on Arrows on Saturday and did not travel with his team to Otjiwarongo.
Defending champions Orlando Pirates are also on 16 points after being held to a 3-all draw by Oshakati City in Oshakati.
Chief Santos drew 1-1 against Hotspurs yesterday, after their match was called off on Saturday due to heavy rain in Tsumeb. corry@namibian.com.na
