Ali Dharani of the Rani Group of Companies recently opened the group’s first supermarket, also known as ‘the people’s market’, at Rehoboth.
The supermarket, located in block F, sells various home-based essentials and features a dedicated bulk depot for beverages.
Rehoboth deputy mayor Cornvenus Klazen says the supermarket represents a major investment in the town’s economy.
“We welcome the supermarket to Rehoboth. Its establishment contributes to Rehoboth’s development and plays a vital role in various initiatives, such as driving economic growth and reducing unemployment,” he says.
Rehoboth resident Marie Isaacs says the supermarket has helped to decrease unemployment at the town.
“So far about 47 new jobs for local residents have been created. I’m glad to see people working,” she says.
Another resident, Elvin Coetzee, has expressed excitement about the supermarket’s low prices.
“If we want cheaper and affordable prices we have to go to the capital. Travelling far on the roads can be dangerous and time consuming. I’m happy to always find great deals. I’m amazed by the low prices of many products,” he says.
Coetzee says Block F in the past mainly had caravans and small home-based businesses they could buy home essentials from.
“I am thankful for the various low prices on the items the supermarket sells,” he says.
