The festive season is a time when many travel to create the best holiday experiences ever. Eventually, it all boils down to accommodation, transport and, most importantly, activities. But have no fear – there are plenty of iOS and Android apps to help you plan for the festive season while staying as entertained as possible. All of this from the palm of your hand. Check out our list of useful apps to make this the perfect holiday.
If you’re ever looking for accommodation and don’t want it to cost you an arm and a leg, try Airbnb. The company is trustworthy and the prices are quite reasonable. And yes, it works in Namibia too. So if you ever need a couple of days to just get away, try it out. The booking process is easy, but don’t forget to read through everything. Remember to check out the reviews, photos and points of interest close to your accommodation.
Tempted to try new food this Christmas? There are plenty of apps available to switch up your style and spice up the dining table. Check out ‘Perfect Christmas Dinner’ for iPhones. Recommended by many users, the app features loads of recipes and plenty of advice from chef tutors, including videos. Instead of downloading a separate app, ‘Perfect Christmas Dinner’ also includes a shopping and menu list which is quite handy. Androiders, don’t fear – you can download ‘Christmas Food’, an app which is festive-inspired but allows you to try main and side dishes as well as delicious desserts.
Feeling left out while everyone is having wine and beer? Don’t worry, you can create your own cocktails thanks to ‘Mixologist’. Downloaded millions of times and voted the number one drink and cocktail recipe app in the world, the award-winning app provides thousands of new recipes which contain your favourite kinds of alcohol.
You are able to choose from the classics to holiday drinks, jello shots, martinis and non-alcoholic beverages. Or be random – the app also allows you to make up your own drink according to what ingredients you like. As the famous saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Please keep in mind, The Weekender does not advise drinking and driving.
Christmas carols are always fun to sing along to. ‘Jingle Bells’ has a jolly tone while ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ is all about the basics. As good as our memories are, we can’t always remember all of them. This is why apps such as ‘Christmas Carols’ are quite useful. Packaged with almost 800 hymns from various churches around the world, the app will have the whole family harmonising to religious songs after dinner. ‘Christmas Carols’ is available on Google’s Play Store while you can find the iOS version called ‘Sing Along Christmas Carols’ on the App Store.
