Andima free kick earns Stars a point

A great free kick by Nico Andima in the dying minutes of the game earned African Stars a point in a 2-all draw against Cymot SKW on Wednesday night.

In a close encounter, Stars took the lead in the first half when Ninja Karongee headed in from a corner. SKW fought back strongly and second half goals by two new signings – Tjono Jagger and Frans van Wyk – seemed enough to secure them victory. But with only three minutes remaining, a brilliant 35m freekick by Stars’ veteran substitute Andima, gave them a share of the spoils. The result sees SKW moving to the top of the log on 17 points, one point ahead of Ramblers who play Civics on Friday night.Stars remain in fifth position on 12 points.NGUEZA MISSES PENALTY Stars had a great chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty after Edmund Gowaseb handled in the box in the 19th minute, but Dennis Ngueza blasted the ball over the crossbar.SKW also had their chances and three minutes later there was drama in Stars’ box as shots by Arend von Stryk and Marco van Wyk were scrambled away. But it was Stars who opened the scoring when Edison Muheua sent in a pinpoint corner and a glancing header by Ninja Karongee hit the back of the net.SKW ended the first half strongly with Marco van Wyk, Johnny Stephanus and Tjono Jagger all coming close to scoring.GREAT GOAL BY JAGGER SKW equalised through a great goal by their new signing from Black Africa, Tjono Jagger in the 62nd minute. He received the ball with his back towards the goal, turned sharply and hit the back of the net with a first time shot. The match started opening up in the final quarter with chances at both ends.Jagger provided an accurate cross from the right, which was just cleared away, but Stars immediately counter-attacked and Brouwers Litombo forced a good save by SKW keeper Heribert Kapeng. At the other end Marco van Wyk blasted over the top after being put clear by substitute striker Frans van Wyk, but it was not long before SKW took the lead.Frans van Wyk latched onto a long upfield clearance in the 79th minute and volleyed the ball into the net. With time running out Stars were awarded a freekick after referee Rainhold Shikongo judged that SKW substitute Gunter von Hundelshausen had handled the ball.Von Hundelshausen protested vehemently against the decision, but it was too late and Andima stepped up to send a great shot flying into the net.For SKW Marco van Wyk had a great game in midfield, as did Elias Lisaku and Edmund Gowaseb, but their communication with their strikers Arend von Stryk and Johnny Stephanus was not very good. For Stars, Max Mbaeva pulled off some fine saves, while Ninja Karongee was their most influential player, initiating numerous attacks from the midfield.SKW 2 (0) African Stars 2 (1) SKW Tjono Jagger 62′ Frans van Wyk 79′ African Stars Ninja
