All Roads Lead To… Yetti and the Fox

In a little alcove in The Brewers Market, Yetti and The Fox’s blender is buzzing pleasantly away.

It’s the kind of noise that usually prefaces something fresh, healthy and naturally delicious. In the blender is the swirl of spinach, ginger, cucumber, pineapple and apple that constitutes the green juice which looks somewhat miniature in PG ‘Yetti’ du Preez’s large hands.

“Have you seen a Yeti?” du Preez asks mischievously when I inquire as to the nickname that gives his little eatery half its name. Mythical creatures aside, I get his point.

“I’m big and hairy so my friends called me Yetti and it stuck.” The fox in the little grub hub’s moniker refers to Yetti’s business partner and girlfriend Rica Billiau. Codename: Foxy.

“My girlfriend is the healthier one in the relationship so all the health food is her department,” says Yetti, whose partner is incoming from Australia to update a menu that already consists of a variety of smoothies, fresh juices, sandwiches, cakes and coffee.

“The health thing is really booming,” says Yetti. “When I was travelling with Rica in Australia, I could see it is a very big market. In Namibia, we are slowly starting to evolve that way as well. Everybody seems to be exercising and being more health conscious. Personally, I just have the salami and smoked beef sandwiches.”

Currently serving Tribe Coffee but eager to introduce its own blend, on a late Tuesday afternoon, Yetti and the Fox is run by the lovely Memory Siukuta, who clues me in on the bestsellers.

“We’re still new but the most popular things are cappuccinos, hot chocolate, salami sandwiches and the kiwi and mango smoothie,” she says before teasing their incoming Matcha and green smoothies as well as the chocolate, caramel and mint cake which will be debuting this week.

Alcohol free and accessible through The Brewers Market’s Brew Room, Yetti and The Fox is open daily for those seeking a bite for lunch, after work and beyond.

“You can come in through The Brew Room and sit anywhere at The Brewers Market or you can grab and go,” says Yetti.

“We stay open till 22h00 or 23h00 in the evening because lots of people who come to listen to music or to enjoy karaoke don’t drink alcohol and so they order our coffee, smoothies and juices.”

Snug, sweet and selling the moistest chocolate muffins I’ve had in a minute, Yetti and the Fox is a solid stop for something light, tasty and effortlessly on the go.

Yetti & the Fox is situated at The Brewers Market on Tal Street (the old Warehouse Theatre) in Windhoek and is open daily from 11h00 till late.
