Ali beats Borovski

NAMIBIA’S Commonwealth champion Paulus ‘Ali’ Nuumbembe, kept his tools sharp by beating Vladimir Borovski on points over six rounds in Wigan, England Friday.

Nuumbembe’s manager, Chad Parker, yesterday said that his boxer hit Borovski frequently and looked like he hurt the Ukrainian. Nuumbembe tried hard to stop his opponent but Borovski used all his experience to cover up well and absorb the Namibians shots.Borovski almost planted himself into the canvas so it was left to Nuumbembe to circle him whilst landing with left hooks to the body and head; right hands to the body, one-twos and variations of various combinations went in also, Parker said, adding that Nuumbembe did have a sense of urgency throughout but he was unable to put the Ukrainian tough man down.Parker said Borovski did open-up a little in fourth round; left hooks caught Nuumbembe, only for Nuumbembe to double on the one-two and then land a double-jab and right hand.”Ali peppered Vladimir in the final round to send his fans home happy and, once again, send Borovski home sore,” said Parker. He added that Matthew Hatton sat at ringside watching Nuumbembe as a mouth-watering clash looks to be on the cards for Nuumbembe’s Commonwealth Title.Since turning professional in 2002 he has had 17 wins, two defeats and one draw.Nuumbembe won the Commonwealth welterweight title from Kevin Anderson at the Fife Ice Centre in Kirkcaldy on 16 February this year, a feat that shot him up to number one spot on the British boxing rankings.NampaNuumbembe tried hard to stop his opponent but Borovski used all his experience to cover up well and absorb the Namibians shots.Borovski almost planted himself into the canvas so it was left to Nuumbembe to circle him whilst landing with left hooks to the body and head; right hands to the body, one-twos and variations of various combinations went in also, Parker said, adding that Nuumbembe did have a sense of urgency throughout but he was unable to put the Ukrainian tough man down.Parker said Borovski did open-up a little in fourth round; left hooks caught Nuumbembe, only for Nuumbembe to double on the one-two and then land a double-jab and right hand.”Ali peppered Vladimir in the final round to send his fans home happy and, once again, send Borovski home sore,” said Parker. He added that Matthew Hatton sat at ringside watching Nuumbembe as a mouth-watering clash looks to be on the cards for Nuumbembe’s Commonwealth Title.Since turning professional in 2002 he has had 17 wins, two defeats and one draw.Nuumbembe won the Commonwealth welterweight title from Kevin Anderson at the Fife Ice Centre in Kirkcaldy on 16 February this year, a feat that shot him up to number one spot on the British boxing rankings.Nampa
