Africa’s Finest Cultural and Fashion Show Comes to Windhoek

Taking place in Windhoek for the second time, Africa’s Finest Cultural and Fashion Show will see both upcoming and renowned designers showcase their work. London based Eva Miarka, organiser of the event, created the fundraising initiative to support young designers.

“I believe that fashion is for everyone and a lifetime career, because clothes are important to everyone. The fashion industry is always looking for new talent and what better way is there to showcase it than this event?”

Organisers say preparation for the show has started well in advance with auditions for selecting only the best Namibian and international models having already taken place.

An impressive line up of designers are taking part, including not just Namibian designers, but representatives from seven other African countries, namely Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi and Angola.

The flavour throughout is purely African, demonstrating that African fashion design is not only alive and well, but is positively thriving.

Namibia’s exclusive fashion brand Swakara is supporting this event by showcasing designs by famous and upcoming designers, including Namibia’s very own Nikola Conradie. Agnes Izaaks, Sean Cloete, Immanuel Garoeb and Melisa Poulton are just some of the Namibian designers expected to showcase at the event.

Swakara’s marketing consultant Jeremy Duffield-Harding says, “Swakara is seen on many of the world’s catwalks, this is a good opportunity to show Swakara in our home capital and what better venue than Africa’s Finest Cultural and Fashion Show at the Hilton Hotel.”

Five judges will be tasked with the decision on which designers will win awards.

-The event takes place at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek on Saturday, 9 August at 19h00. Tickets are available at the Franco Namibia Culture Centre (FNCC) for N$150.
