Many young players dream of playing in foreign leagues, but it is important to understand that reaching that level takes time, patience, discipline, and consistent hard work.
If you look at many of our players who are now playing professional football abroad, you will notice that many are close to 30 years old or already over 30. Their success did not happen overnight. They spent years working hard, staying committed, and proving themselves before earning those opportunities.
The same applies to many of our experienced players who continue to perform at a high level in our local league. Age has not stopped them because they have remained disciplined and dedicated to their profession.
Remember, the Namibian top league can be your stepping stone to bigger and better leagues where opportunities and financial rewards are greater. Therefore, respect the local league, give your best every time you step onto the field, and use it as a platform to showcase your talent.
Set goals for yourself and stay focused on achieving them. Don’t compare your journey with someone else’s. Every player’s path is different, and success comes at different times.
When your opportunity comes—whether it is a contract with a local club or a foreign club—grab it with both hands. But remember, signing a contract is only the beginning. You must continue to work hard every day because you have to set your own standard and maintain it through consistent performances.
Today I shared pictures of some of our players who have achieved success through hard work, sacrifice, and determination. Let them, and many others, be an inspiration to you. Football can truly change lives.
EDUCATION
While focussing on your profession, never neglect your education. A football career does not last forever, and education will always open doors. Players like Stigga Katjijere, along with many others, proved that it is possible to compete at the highest level while still making time to study and prepare for life after football.
Follow their example by developing yourself both on and off the field. I also want to give flowers to all our players—those playing abroad, those playing locally, and those who have represented our country with pride. Too often, we wait until people are gone before we appreciate and celebrate their achievements.
Let us honour them now, while they can still see, hear, and appreciate the respect they have earned. They have inspired generations, and they deserve their flowers.
Finally, always remember that the ultimate goal is to wear the Brave Warriors jersey. Representing your country is the highest honour for any Namibian footballer. That privilege is earned through hard work, discipline, humility, and consistent performance at club level.
To those playing in the lower divisions across Namibia, and to those playing football in our villages and rural communities, dream big. Believe that one day you can play in the Namibia Premier League and, from there, earn opportunities to play professionally abroad.
Never underestimate your talent. Believe in yourself first, because if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be difficult for others to believe in you.
Never lose hope. Keep believing in yourself, keep working hard, and trust the process. Through hard work, dedication, and faith, the Almighty God will open the right doors for you at the right time.
Dream big, stay humble, and let your actions speak louder than your words.
This is just a piece of advice to every young footballer who dreams of playing professional football one day.
