A rock and roll infused weekend

NAMIBIA’s opening up and relaxation of the Covid-19 pandemic regulations can only mean that revellers should brace up for a new season, ushering in a new wave of entertainment across the country.

Mindscape Events has already taken the lead, and will, tomorrow, bring an interesting mix of some of the country’s successful musical acts coming from the shadow of the pandemic at an event themed Rock ‘N ‘ Roll Namibia to be held at Avani in Windhoek.

The show will be headlined by South Africa’s rock sensation, Prime Circle, a band which is regarded as South African rock royalty, boasting numerous awards, six studio albums, sold-out tours and being play-listed on radio and headlining major rock festivals.

“We have tailormade this concert with strict attention to detail, and to send a message that Namibia is now open for business. We understand that our people have been starved of high-budget concerts backed up by thrilling shows in environments that are both rich and safe, and this is why you must come this Saturday and be part of the awesome experience,” said Mindscape Events concert organiser Gordon Jay.

The event promises to be a night of acoustic explosion, with supporting acts coming from a catalogue of some of Namibia’s successful rock bands, comprising As Night Fades, Vaugh Ahrens and Savannah & Adam.

They have promised to belt out fresh and unique sounds to mark a genuine opening up of the country.

So far, the event has attracted massive interest online and comes at a time when gathering has been increased to 1 000 for the first time since Covid-19 lockdowns began.

As Night Fades is a heavy metal act that has struggled due to the pandemic. But this weekend, the band intends on delivering a class act representing its genre, passion and love for live music.

“Truly a rough time, but we are bettering ourselves as well as our mindset towards our music so as to endure any future tough moments as we experienced. Entertainment, tourism, social upliftment, I think this can only mean that we are taking a step towards ‘normality ‘.

“Our country is in dire need of stability, and incorporating such contradicting music style shows that we, as a nation, are able to flaunt our talents and diversity at one single event. This can only open doors,” said Stephen, on behalf of the band.

Credited for the 2018 Gondwana hit song, ‘Namibia my friend ‘, which brought awareness to the plight of Namibia’s wild horses, Savannah also said revellers should look forward to a fresh, upbeat, rock ‘n roll- filled set, with full acoustic guitar and husky vocals, accompanied by electric drums.

On the other end, representing Vaugh Ahrens, Kylie said they do not want to make promises, as they want to leave it all on stage. The band brings to Rock ‘N ‘ Roll Namibia concert some of its older crowd favourites, as well as a new single they are dropping the day before.
