‘A New Person Every Day’

Jeffrey Hiuii is a 30-year-old Namibian stylist whose eccentric fashion sensibilities make him stand out wherever he goes.

“Every time I wear something, someone has a problem with how I’ve worn it. I think that’s mainly why I wear what I wear. I love pushing the narrative that I can become a new person every day based on my style,” he says.

Hiuii believes styling is about more than just clothes. He refers to it as “therapy” and revels in its ability to bring the thrilling and the spectacular out in people.

“My obligation is to make you feel confident in what you’re wearing. If I do that, I’ve done my job,” he says.

Hiuii has styled looks for local brands such as Hazel Creations and The Sequel Vintage Store, and his styling of model Muhudi Simana was recently featured on the official Vogue website as part of their feature on the immensely popular Vogue Challenge.

He describes the feature as a dream come true – especially for someone who’s long fantasised about attending A-list events like the famed Met Gala.

“When the team got together we just wanted to create new content, we didn’t think Vogue would see something in us. I was so surprised, we all cried and I did not sleep at all that day.”

From there, the team also saw their images appear on Vogue Australia’s site and ‘Good Morning America’, providing much-needed validation for Hiuii that leaving formal employment last year to pursue fashion full-time was the right decision.

He is inspired by runway looks from 20 or 30 years ago.

“I’m a 90s girl you know,” he laughs. “I love to look at the trends and ask myself: How do I improve on that?”
