A journey of resilience in becoming a chartered accountant

Jillroy Fredericks

AT 20 years old, Jillroy Fredericks is gradually working towards his dream of becoming a chartered accountant.

He says life has not been easy for him, being raised by parents who were both unemployed.
Fredericks says he had to struggle through much in life.

“Not one to give up easily, I quickly took responsibility to support my family and found myself a job with PIS Security Company, where I worked until this month,” says Fredericks.

During his Grade 11 exams, while playing soccer, he injured his shoulder which affected him at school.

But he never gave up and upon enrolment at the Namibia College of Open Learning (Namcol) to improve his grades, he continued working as a security officer.

“I’ve been accepted to undertake my advanced subsidiary level at Suiderlig Secondary School at Keetmanshoop,” Fredericks says.

His long-standing dream of becoming a chartered accountant remains at the forefront of his aspirations.
He says the support of his teachers has been imperative in this journey.

Andreas Robert, the counsellor at school, commends Fredericks’ determination.

“His drive to succeed is inspiring. His dream of becoming a chartered accountant is not just a goal – it’s a mission.”

Suiderlig Secondary School principal Rebekka Aupokolo is equally supportive; she says the school pledges to take care of the community.
“Suiderlig is the light of the south,” she says.

“We are committed to helping each student prosper. Fredericks’ past experiences also include working as a security guard, which can make him an excellent candidate to hold a leading position in our learner representative council in 2025.

With greater responsibilities, his passion and leadership will only grow,” says Aupokolo.

The message from Fredericks to those who have experienced setbacks is simple: “Don’t give up on your dreams. Namcol was made for those who need extra time and support. Stay focused and success will come. Your background doesn’t define your future. Keep pushing forward.”

Fredericks is the embodiment of persistence, proving that with hard work, determination and a clear vision, everything is possible.
