I’m impressed at how people are becoming more aware of the importance of health and fitness. If it is not my boss who randomly decides to embark on a fitness programme that has us all inspired, it’s every second person on social media on a mission to get their bodies in shape.
My mom even mentioned the other day that she is thinking about starting a daily walk, or joining a group inspired to live a healthier and fitness-inspired lifestyle.
Am I the only one ignorant to the obvious fact that health and fitness are vitally important in life and a responsibility more of us should take seriously? I’m excited at this desire so many people have to take care of their bodies. To look better and to be healthier.
Honestly, it inspires me, but I have a problem…
I have been paying a gym subscription fee for the past two years, and have been to the gym no more than three times! Yes, you read right! Three times…
I had been a committed gym client for a couple years but then cancelled my subscription only to join again two years ago. However, here I am, paying for something I don’t even use.
The thought of lifting my behind and taking it to the gym has been on my mind for at least two months yet I still can’t get myself to make a start of it.
I’m inspired, though, and the thought of getting into gear is growing stronger and stronger every day – all thanks to the trend of healthy eating and fitness that seems to have taken over the world.
There are boot camps, groups that come together for regular walks and jogs; some people have personal trainers, others have their regular gym sessions.
There are plenty of ways to make a start at taking better care of your body – the options are endless. And while some may require a financial investment, which is quite a challenge for many, there are ways to keep your body in top shape without spending a cent.
A simple daily walk, which you gradually increase in terms of distance and difficulty, is a simple way to start. This can translate into a jog once you’ve gained a bit of stamina.
We must be aware however that the reality of taking a walk or going for a jog is not as safe as it once was, which explains the popularity of group walks and jogs, which may be a better option.
So whether you have money or not, there is no excuse to not make that needed change. Even something as simple as changing the way you eat can make a huge difference.
“You are what you eat” is a saying which bears much truth. So become aware of what you put into your body and be cautious of how you generally treat this gift entrusted to you. It is your responsibility to make sure you look good and have a healthy body.
Gents, when I say these things, I also speak to myself, because I have not been the most responsible shepherd of my body. In fact, the way things look now, I need to get to the gym ASAP and start being more aware of what I consume, pronto!
I am very irresponsible in this regard, but I am sure I speak on behalf of plenty of you out there as well.
I must admit, the thought of going to the gym alone and having to be on this journey by myself is not very appealing, nor encouraging. So maybe there is someone out there willing and ready to team up with me on this road to health and fitness?
In the meantime, big ups to all those inspiring Namibians who have taken that stand and committed themselves to being more responsible for their health. You have inspired me and many others out there as well.
A healthy body equals a healthy mind. And let’s face it, when you look good, you feel great! And feeling great has such a powerful impact on your life, as well as those around you.
So this is my challenge to you (and me): Take responsibility for that body and do the best you can to own it, and to make it look and feel tops!
Till next time, gents. Cheers!
