The Business and Intellectual Property Authority (Bipa) has extended its Annual Duty Penalty Waiver Programme for an additional three months.
According to Bipa spokesperson Ockert Jansen, the extension comes amid high demand from local businesses.
“Originally launched on 15 November 2023, and scheduled to conclude on 31 March 2024, the waiver programme garnered significant interest from businesses across various sectors. However, recognising the challenges faced by many businesses in participating in the waiver programme within the specified time frame, Bipa has decided to extend the programme to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all eligible entities,” says Jansen.
Bipa chief executive Vivienne Katjiuongua says business owners should not wait until the last minute.
“The extension underscores Bipa’s commitment to supporting the business community and fostering a conducive environment for economic growth and innovation. By providing additional time and outreach efforts, Bipa seeks to empower businesses with the assistance needed to navigate regulatory obligations effectively,” says Katjiuongua.
Bipa wil conduct outreaches to various towns and regions to provide businesses the opportunity to participate in the programme.
