An Otjozondjupa farmer who started an egg and vegetable project four months ago now produces 90 eggs per day.
Rebecca Ndjiharine has received start-up funding from the National Youth Development Fund and has set up a garden producing cabbage, spinach and onions along with her 98 egg-laying hens.
“If I’m not here at home, I’m at Otjituuo selling my eggs. I do not have time to play around any more,” Ndjiharine has told the Agricultural Bank of Namibia.
Her 90 eggs per day are approximately three trays of eggs, which she sells to residents of neighbouring villages.
Ndjiharine’s project is at Okakarara, and she employs two people to help maintain the garden.
She says she used the youth development financing to buy a water tank, pipes, feed and pay her workers.
She intends to expand her business to 1 000 egg-laying hens, building a larger chicken coup, and planting three hectares of vegetables.
“She also plans to plant watermelons in December.
“Despite the progress, Ndjiharine still faces challenges.
“She plans to invest in an irrigation system and pressure pump once she harvests,” Agribank says.
Ndjiharine received training from Agribank in December 2025 and plans to apply for additional financing support for a drip irrigation system.
“There is nothing wrong with trying. Just try with the little you have, even if it is just N$10.
“Even selling ice and N$1 sweets makes a difference,” she says.
