HARARE – A member of Zimbabwe’s opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and an associate were yesterday denied bail by a magistrates court after they were charged with conspiring to assault a rival lawmaker.
“(The) course of justice would be hampered if they are released on bail,” Harare magistrate Faith Mushure said in her short ruling on MDC legislator Timothy Mubawu and his co-accused, Abraham Kurimakwaramba, an MDC party official. “This court appreciates that the charges are serious and both accused could face years in jail with the option of a fine, or both,” she added.Mubawu’s alleged offence carries a fine of 10 million Zimbabwe dollars (US$98) or a maximum prison sentence of five years.”The accused are remanded in custody to July 26, pending trial.”- Nampa-AFP”This court appreciates that the charges are serious and both accused could face years in jail with the option of a fine, or both,” she added.Mubawu’s alleged offence carries a fine of 10 million Zimbabwe dollars (US$98) or a maximum prison sentence of five years.”The accused are remanded in custody to July 26, pending trial.”- Nampa-AFP
