Zambian truck drivers charged with attempted murder

The charges against two Zambian men, who were arrested for assaulting a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex community near Walvis Bay last week, have been changed to attempted murder.

Shabome Shiaimense (27) and Jonathan Kamfwa (40) appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Public prosecutor Victoria Shikesho told the court the victim is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of a Windhoek hospital.

According to the charge sheet, the two allegedly assaulted Brian Araeb by hitting him with an object all over his body and head, causing a skull fracture and other wounds.

Magistrate John Sindano postponed the case to 27 March for further investigations.

He said the accused may apply for bail, which the prosecutor did not oppose.

Araeb was discovered unconscious in the dunes close to Dunes Mall on 4 January after the accused reportedly assaulted him following a sexual encounter upon realising he is biologically a man.
