Zambian truck drivers arrested for assault at Walvis Bay

Two Zambian men were arrested on Thursday afternoon following an incident involving a member of the LGBTQ+ community who was found unconscious in the dunes close to Walvis Bay.

The Erongo police confirmed the incident, saying investigations are in progress.

According to sources close to the investigation, it is alleged that one of the suspects engaged in sexual activity with the victim and then launched an assault when he realised the victim’s gender identity did not align with his expectations.

Clothing belonging to the victim was reportedly found in a lorry involved in the incident.

The victim was allegedly subjected to a severe assault by the two suspects before being dumped half naked near the dunes.

The suspects and the victim were reportedly socialising with others at the truck port near the Narraville area of Walvis Bay from Wednesday evening into the early hours of Thursday.

The victim was admitted to a hospital at Walvis Bay and transferred to Katutura Intermediate Hospital on Friday, and is reported to be in a stable condition.

The two suspects are due to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
