Youth leader says technology needed to fight rural poverty

THE expansion of radio, telephone and Internet facilities to rural areas will help in the fight against poverty, a youth leader has said.

Addressing a workshop in the capital on the use of information technology by the youth, Secretary General of the National Youth Council, (NYC), Pohamba Shifeta, said yesterday that with the expansion of such facilities to rural areas, many rural people can save money by not travelling daily to urban areas to access these facilities. Shifeta said the workshop was timely and served to implement the outcomes of the African Youth Conference held in Windhoek last year.”As youth, we need to join the digital revolution to fight serious isolation from the global economy and lack of education, scientific and technological advancement,” said Shifeta.Shifeta said the workshop was timely and served to implement the outcomes of the African Youth Conference held in Windhoek last year. “As youth, we need to join the digital revolution to fight serious isolation from the global economy and lack of education, scientific and technological advancement,” said Shifeta.
