THE Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Petrina Haingura, says the youth are key in fighting drug and alcohol abuse, because they are the most vulnerable ones and if they say ‘no’ to temptation, the next generation of Namibians would be free of addiction.
She was speaking at the commemoration of the International Day against Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Oshakati over the weekend.Haingura praised young people in Oshana who had been involved in crime and drug and alcohol abuse in the past and have now taken a public stance against it by forming the Turning Point Boys’ Club. The club co-operates with the Police against drug dealing and other criminal activities.Haingura said people wanting to get rid of drug addiction could get help at the Ministry of Health’s Etegameno rehabilitation centre, situated between Windhoek and Okahandja.Last year, the centre treated 75 people for addiction to a variety of substances.
