Your next few weeks in events

Am I gaslighting myself or is it getting warmer? I swear there’s something in the air that’s starting to smell a little like spring. It might be the fun runs or the starry night concerts. I don’t know, but the following events are calling you – and you might not need that thick of a jacket.

Today

Tonight is the Afrotech Namibia AI Innovation and Inclusion Conference at Grove Mall’s Ster Kinekor theatre from 08h00 to 17h00, with Emma Kantema, Natalie Raphil, Nazarene Ebrahim, Lelanie Basson, Arinze Okafor and Lizel Engelbrecht. Ticket prices range between N$350 and N$450 and are available at afrotech.com.co.

This Weekend

This Friday, catch the ‘Concert Under The Stars’ at Stratos at Avani, featuring the stylings of Hot Pocket Band from 19h00 to 21h00. The dress code is semi-formal. Entry is N$300 per person and includes a welcoming drink.

On 26 July there’s a Swakop vision board session by Purposeful Living Counselling. Participants will reflect on the first half of the year, release what no longer serves them, reignite their purpose and clarity, and create a visual map of dreams. Entry is N$350 for the guided session from 11h00 to 12h30. The venue will be confirmed after registration.

On Saturday the Windhoek City Runner’s Club is hosting a 15 and 21.1km run from 06h30, a 10km run from 07h00 and a 5km run from 07h30 starting at the Doc Jubber Hockey Fields at Olympia, Windhoek. Entry is N$30 for club members and N$50 for non members. NMC and Methealth staff participate for free.

There is also the National Cancer Walk starting at Jan Jonker Road, opposite St Paul’s College, on Saturday morning. The 5km walk starts at 07h00 and entry is N$40 for scholars and pensioners, and N$50 for adults.

It’s Biker’s Bowls Day on the 26th at the Walvis Bay Bowls Club from 10h00 till late. The entry fee is N$500 per team of four. This fundraising bowling tournament will include a cash bar, food, stalls and a lucky draw.

If you aren’t the sporty type but love the outdoors, there’s a hydroponics and aquaponics workshop at The Village at Eros on Saturday between 09h00 and 16h00. This course is for anyone looking to explore sustainable, water-wise growing. Entry is N$1 200 per person and includes coffee and a light lunch.

On Saturday evening, catch Francois van Coke live in concert at Sound Garden Swakopmund from 17h00.

Next Week

Next Tuesday there’s a live blind dating show taking place at The Village Garden between 19h00 and 22h00. Meet someone special in a fun, exciting way on this evening of mystery, chemistry and unforgettable moments. Pre-sold tickets are N$100 and N$150 at the door.

If you love opera, theatre and musical theatre, come through to the Windhoek High School auditorium at the end of the month for ‘You Have Loved Enough’, a two-person opera and theatre piece written and directed by Sandy Rudd and Galilei Njembo. This production will take place over two nights, 31 July and 1 August from 19h00. Tickets are between N$80 and N$150.

On 1 August, catch band Blikweg live at The Place at Swakopmund. Entry is N$100 for the 20h00 show.

Whispers of Wellness is hosting ‘Rise and Align’ yoga classes taking place every Monday and Wednesday between 06h00 and 07h00 at The Yoga Shala inside the Maerua Mall Lifestyle Centre. It will cost N$130 to drop in for one class and N$100 per class for Shala members.

There’s a new quiz night in town at Piccolo Café and Lounge every Tuesday from 18h30. Entry is N$30 per person for groups of six maximum.

Every Saturday Namville Cafe at Ausspanplatz is hosting a braai and open mic session. Bring your voice or just enjoy the show and good vibes from noon.
