… Papa Shikongeni holds collage workshop this weekend

We are in the midst of Heritage Week in Namibia and I think this is a great opportunity to reflect on what it means to share this beautiful country with such a diverse range of people. It’s also a great time to go out and support local artists, vendors, creatives and event planners.

Today

The Museums Association of Namibia is hosting Namibian Heritage Week that started on Monday and will run till Sunday at the Namibia Maritime Museum at Luderitz from 17h30. The theme is ‘Bahindi Belambi lye Chizo Chetu’, which means ‘Torchbearers of Our Heritage’ in Subiya.

Bellhaus Atelier & Gallerie invites all creatives, artists, and art lovers to a personal and transformative collage workshop led by the extraordinary Papa Shikongeni this evening at 18h00. Explore his unique collage techniques inspired by the theme ‘Elunduluko’ meaning transformation, and dive deep into the heart of creativity, encouraging freedom, intuition, and expression beyond boundaries. Entry is N$300 per person and includes all materials: recycled cardboard, newspapers, magazines, and more. Booking is essential as space is limited.

This Weekend

The Namibian Heritage Week team is hosting a Heritage Day celebration at the University of Nambia (Unam) tomorrow from 09h00 at the Y-block patio. There will be artefacts, books, posters, games and traditional food for sale.

In the evening there’s a family friendly Heritage Evening Market at The Namibian Arts Association and the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC). There will be art, crafts, food and drinks for sale, and live musical performances by Tsumeb Marimba Band, Taps, DJ Shiponga, Lady Black, Unam Choir and Pandu & B-Fresh.

Tomorrow evening you can catch singer Riaan Smit live at Swakopmund at Sound Garden.

This Saturday there’s a Body & Mind Workshop between 10h00 and 14h00 at Kim’s Dance and Fitness Swakopmund. It will include pilates, dance, talks and stretching. Entry is N$350 per person and includes a snack.

Foxxy’s Spring Soiree and Fashion Show is happening on Saturday at Stratos Avani. Entry is N$350 per person in advance. Tickets will not be for sale at the door.

Also on Saturday The Local Palete presents Pop Up Exhibition at the FNCC, with music by Archaus, featuring over 15 local artists. The show runs between 16h00 and 23h00. Tickets are N$80 in advance and N$100 at the gate. One free drink and finger food is included.

Cota Theatre School is hosting Theatre Day on Saturday at their city campus. Entry is N$10 for children and N$20 for adults.

This Sunday there’s something for motorcyclists. Join the global royal enfield ‘One Ride’ at Namibia Motorcycles from 10h00, for a group ride to Okahandja Country Lodge. All bikers are welcome to bring their own bikes or rent one for the day and there will be a braai afterparty from 17h00.

Next Week

On 27 September is the NamPharm Foundation Fun Walk at Grove Mall in Windhoek. You can do 5km or 10km steps for clefts from 07h00. Entry is N$100 per person.

Recurring

The National Theatre of Namibia is hosting the Stage Actors Training Lab 2025 every Tuesday and Thursday in the Rehearsal Room between 14h00 and 17h00. N$50-per-class tickets are only available via Webtickets.

Every Tuesday is Tipsy Tuesday at the Rabbit Hole in Windhoek. Catch drink specials and music by DJs like IcearGrooves and MVSA from noon.

Drop in on Quiz Night and flex your cerebral cortex at Piccolo Cafe and Lounge every Tuesday from 18h30. Entry is N$30 per person for groups of maximum six people.

On Wednesdays you can also grab two ice cold beers from the tap for the price of one at Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe.

The Speakeasy in Liliencron Street is hosting Ladies’ Night every Wednesday with 50% off of all cocktails and meal options available.
