Mondesa SME exhibition ongoing

It’s almost time to pack away your heater, your sweaters and the situationship you are in and start preparing for sun, sweat and sunny summer days. Before that, let’s have a couple more chilly days filled with music, poetry, art, film and ballet.

Today

The Atusheni Community and SME Exhibition is currently ongoing at Swakopmund outside the Mondesa Multipurpose Centre till Sunday. There will be food and drink stalls and other entertainment. Entry is free from 10h00.

This evening is the Havana Movie Night at the Frans Arts Centre. Entry is free for the 18h30 showing of the Namibian documentary, ‘Beyond The Goalpost’. Popcorn and drinks will be available.

The International University of Management Cultural Festival kicked off yesterday at Palm Tree Park and is running daily till Sunday. There will be food and drinks stalls, activities and entertainment for all.

This Weekend

Get ready for The Vineyart tomorrow. This evening of music, wine, networking and art will take place at BBB Beergarten from 18h00 to 22h00. Entry is N$50 and includes a complimentary glass of wine.

Vinyls Music and Art Cafe presents a poetry night this Friday night from 19h44. Jeremiah Ndebele will serve as the host while Mr Poet, Gustavo Shitaleni, Solve X, Bella Phoenix, Perspective, AHDoesit, Hope Basson and Gracie Dynamite will perform. The theme will be ‘Receipts from The Republic: Citizens take on Corruption’. Entry is N$100.

If you are keen for a cute kids-run market, the Future Founders Expo at Wanderers Sport Field is taking place on Saturday morning. This event will include stalls by child entrepreneurs with cool business ideas, business seminars, quiz and game sessions and activities. Come through from 09h00.

On Saturday evening is the Namibian Lesbian Festival at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre takes place under the theme ‘Stronger Together Through Unity, Solidarity, Power’. From 18h30 come through for creativity, connection, healing and sisterhood. Entry is free.

Elsewhere on 30 August, rapper Mark Mushiva makes a rare stage appearance with ‘African Accelerationism’ a “lecture performance” at the Creative Arts Institute Africa from 10h00. Keith Vries will be his supporting act.

And lastly, songstress Erna Chimu will have a live concert titled ‘Live in Song’ at the National Theatre of Namibia from 19h00 on Saturday. It will feature guest artists Waters and Sagarias Tsam. Tickets are N$250

Next Week

Next Friday Free Your Mind presents ‘Remember Laughing? A Comedy Hour Filled with Nostalgia’ at Muso’s Cafe. Doors open from 19h30 and tickets are N$100 in advance.

Come through for the NAA Movie Night on 5 September at the Namibian Arts Association in Windhoek. ‘Veraa!’, a documentary on “the influence of slang in contemporary Namibia” by Othilia Tutu Mungoba will be screened from 19h00 for N$50 per person.

Recurring

The National Theatre of Namibia is hosting the Stage Actors Training Lab 2025 every Tuesday and Thursday in the rehearsal room between 14h00 and 17h00. N$50-per-class tickets are only available via Webtickets. Participants must be 18 years of age.

Every week is Tipsy Tuesday at the Rabbit Hole in Windhoek. Catch drink specials and music by DJs like IcearGrooves and MVSA from noon.

On Wednesdays you can grab two ice cold Hansa Draughts for N$50 at Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe.

Drop in on Quiz Night and flex your cerebral cortex at Piccolo Cafe and Lounge every Tuesday from 18h30. Entry is N$30 per person for groups of maximum six.

Wednesdays are ladies night at 18 Liliencron Street. All cocktails are half-price.

On Wednesdays you can also grab two ice cold beers from the tap for the price of one at Vinyls Music and Arts Cafe.

Beyond

The Robin van Wyk choreographed and directed ballet recital ‘Thumbelina’ comes to the National Theatre of Namibia from 11 to 13 September. Early bird tickets are N$220 per person.
