ENDING off the year with a bang, Young T WokOngha – better known as Young T – dropped his final album ‘Philosophical Pages Volume 2: The Early Retirement’ yesterday.
After enduring a difficult period, the rapper, who has eight albums under his belt, is sharing his side of the story through his music.
“I went through the hardest spiritual challenges ever,” Young T told The Namibian. “I should be unique too since it’s the last album from a guy like me who is voluntarily retiring from being an on-stage musician. I feel like the creativity just doubled for this one.”
Stating that the project was kept under tight wraps, Young T said he worked according to the feel of every instrumental on each song. This time around, he worked with what he dubbed “the freshest talent ever”, which includes M-Gee, Fistone, ZYX, ImmzShortman and Terror. He also worked with producer and musician ChakiBeatz, whom he calls “the future”.
“There are features I wanted but couldn’t come to execution simply because the targeted guys stay busy with their own schedules like me. I needed Exit, PDK, Viloh, Waka, Bantu and Shitana but we couldn’t align our schedules. Nevertheless, the album is a package of flames.”
The 17-track project is full of messages the rapper has always shared with his fans: Positivity, persistence and prayer. “If you want to achieve anything in life, just use your brain the right way, have zero expectation of any help from anyone and, most importantly, seek God and believe in the Holy Spirit with your everything.”
As for why the ‘Andiende’ hitmaker is retiring early, he said life in the public eye took a toll on him. “My career was a long-term plan. I could see it all the way through because in my first The Namibian interview and first-ever mainstream video ‘Get Ready – The Freestyle’, I mentioned clearly that I have no intentions of staying a public person. Celebrity life is not a great life to me.”
The star said God had a message which He wanted to pass along to the nation – positivity. “Had He wanted me to continue, I wouldn’t have battled so much at my end.”
It may be sad to hear, but the good news is he isn’t completely done with music. Young T plans to start UGU Empire, a record label based on honesty and positivity. “We do not have a label that really focuses on grooming and nourishing talent in an honest manner in Namibia.”
He also aims to run plenty of enterprises. “I already have small businesses that are operational. From carwashes to bars to music outlets, for most of them I am just a silent member, but I’ve progressed quite well on the business side. It motivates me a lot.”
‘Philosophical Pages Volume 2: The Early Retirement’ is available in local stores.
