More than N$31 000 pledged for boy’s education at Nujoma’s Rundu memorial

The 12-year-old John Kakuwa, who travelled about 200 kilometres from Divundu to Rundu on Thursday to witness the memorial service of the late founding president Sam Nujoma, received N$31 500 from sympathisers on Saturday.

In an interview with EagleFM Namibia on Friday, Kakuwa said he heard a lot about Nujoma’s deeds from his grandmother, and that caused him to embark on his journey from Divundu to Rundu.

Mourners at Rundu Sports Stadium, including business people, Nujoma’s son and his family, and some government officials on Saturday pledged cash to send Kakuwa back to school.

Kavango East governor Bonifasius Wakudumo said the door is open for people willing to give a hand to help the regional office.

“Currently, the boy is not attending school, the regional council leadership and the education director who is the master of ceremony, will make sure by Monday he is placed at a school,” Wakudumo said.
