Young Koorts off to UK race

Cecil Koorts Jr

Twelve-Year-Old Namibian kart racer Cecil Koorts Jr has received a surprise invite to compete at the elite United Kingdom (UK) Champions of the Future karting event at Silverstone against top international talent.

Slated for 27 to 29 March, this year’s competition is expected to be an elite test for the 34 selected racers across the world.
Cecil Koorts Sr, who acts as a mechanic and trainer, describes the invite as a milestone.

The first event will take place at the Silverstone Racetracks, home to the British Grand Prix and Moto GP events.

Cema Racing will get all the needed equipment for the race, Koorts Sr says, adding that cars, spare parts, fuel, tyres, and mechanics will also be allocated to different teams.

“All the cars and engines are supplied by one dealer to ensure all racers take part on the same level,” Koorts Sr says.

The Namibians will arrive in the UK two days before receiving their gear. This will be followed by a day of practice before races commence on the last weekend of March.

Young racers needed to take part in the ROK Karting category to be considered for invitation.

In preparation for this series, Koorts Jr put in as much training on the tracks as possible to reach peak physical and mental state, his father says.

Koorts Jr could not believe it when Team Cema received the invite from the UK, Koorts Sr says.

The series consists of four legs with the last one set for 23 August.

Max Boshoff (12) from South Africa will join Koorts Jr at the event.

Koorts Jr will take part in the first leg of the national championships on 21 March on the Tony Rust Race Track before departing for the UK.
