Record-breaking Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps issued an apology on Sunday after a British newspaper published a photograph purportedly showing him smoking marijuana. ”I engaged in behaviour which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,’ Phelps, the winner of a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last year, said in a statement after the News of the World published the photograph.

Charley Hoffman was still able to raise a smile despite losing out to fellow American Kenny Perry in a playoff for the Phoenix Open on Sunday. The San Diego native ultimately failed in his bid to win a second PGA Tour title but thoroughly enjoyed himself with a barrage of birdies on a hot day at the TPC Scottsdale before losing at the third extra hole.
