Workers protest over unpaid wages

A GROUP of disgruntled workers at SOS Club and Picasso Pizzeria in Oshakati claim that their employer, Linus Johannes, hasn’t paid their salaries for two months.

In a press release issued yesterday, the workers accused Johannes of failing to comply with a signed agreement between the said business and the Namibian Food and Allied Workers’ Union (Nafau). “Our union has tried its best to peacefully advise the owner of the company, but the company did not want to co-operate,” they claimed. The workers are now requesting the Ministry of Labour’s intervention. One of the workers, Salome Hango, expressed disappointment about the management’s attitude when interviewed by The Namibian.Several attempts to reach Johannes on his cellphone proved futile.”Our union has tried its best to peacefully advise the owner of the company, but the company did not want to co-operate,” they claimed. The workers are now requesting the Ministry of Labour’s intervention. One of the workers, Salome Hango, expressed disappointment about the management’s attitude when interviewed by The Namibian.Several attempts to reach Johannes on his cellphone proved futile.
