A Swakopmund-based business that took the initiative to sell firewood directly to customers during the December holiday has been making money.
Operating under the name ‘Ons Gaan Nou Braai’, the business sell firewood and charcoal to holidaymakers from the parking lot behind the Dome in Swakopmund.
The Dome is a recently completed shopping centre that also houses a restaurant, many offices and a gym.
“Since we started on 02 December, we have been taking home around N$8 000 every day,” said salesman Willem Adams on Monday.
Assuming it happens every day, that could total about N$216 000 in 28 days.
A bag of wood costs N$45 while the charcoal goes for N$35.
Salesman, Josef ‘Tiki’ Kangulu said the company decided to come and sell in the parking lot this December instead of being fixed in town.
“A lot of people come to Swakopmund for holiday and use firewood and charcoal to roast meat. Our bosses then decided to capitalise on that,” Kangulu said.
Adams and Kangulu said sales are far better at the parking lot than at the office where they usually supply to service stations and restaurants.
“Here people are buying, the wood is flying off the shelves. I am sure we will definitely comeback next year,” Kangulu told Nampa.
The company creates more jobs by employing people to load and offload supplies when stock is finished.
About 10 men are required to offload the truck after which each receives N$100.
