Women’s golf takes centre stage in city

THE Standard Bank Namibian Ladies Golf Union (NALGU) golf pairs championships will be held at the Windhoek Golf Club this weekend.

This is the first time Standard Bank is sponsoring this event. The bank’s spokesperson, Carmen Maartens, says they are proud to at last be associated with women’s golf in Namibia.Women’s golf has not received the same attention as men’s golf in the past, although the sport has been growing from strength to strength. The championship’s format is a 27-hole foursomes medal, which will be played on Saturday, and an 18-hole better-ball medal scheduled for Sunday.”As the whole tournament is played with a partner, the ladies look forward to lots of fun and good golf,” she said. The entry fee for the championship is N$150 per player, which includes refreshments throughout the weekend.Although the entries closed on Wednesday at 16h00, interested parties with official handicaps can contact the secretary at 081 268 5996 to establish if a spot is still available to compete.
